MISSION:
To
Restore New Chicago to a viable, economically stable, and physically
enhanced Neighborhood.
ABOUT
THE ORGANIZATION:
The
New Chicago Community Development Corporation (NCCDC) is organized to
restore the New Chicago Community to a viable, economically stable,
and physically enhanced neighborhood. To accomplish this NCCDC will
undertake the development of affordable housing, economic development
and social enhancement activities.
NCCDC
organizes clean up campaigns, publishes a community newsletter, and
was awarded a grant to construct community identity signs.
BOUNDARIES:
The
neighborhood boundaries are Chelsea, Watkins, Levee Rd, and Thomas.

HISTORY:
NCCDC
since it inception in 1999 has worked to increase awareness and knowledge
of issues of concern to neighborhood residents and business owners.
In 2005, NCCDC completed its first affordable housing project. During
this project a house at 1246 Louisville, which had been vacant for several
years was acquired. NCCDC was awarded a Community Housing Development
Organization (CHDO) grant to renovate the property. The property was
successfully renovated and rented to an income eligible family. NCCDC
top priority is to continue to provide quality, descent, safe affordable
housing.
MATTHEW
R. DAVIS COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER:
In
2002 NCCDC was donated the former Firestone Union Hall located at 1036
Firestone. The Union Hall is a 12,000 square two story office building
that includes a 4,000 square foot Auditorium. NCCDC has moved it offices
into the facility. The City of Memphis Division of Housing and Community
Development have awarded a $599,000 grant to renovate the facility into
the Matthew R. Davis Community Resource Center. The Center opened in
the fall of 2008.
The
resource center allows the community to use community owned and controlled
meeting space. There is a computer learning lab to help residents enhanced
there computer skills.

The
Center is named in Honor of Mr. Matthew R. Davis a great New Chicago
Resident, Firestone Retiree, Civic leader, and community activist.
SERVICES:
Affordable
Housing Initiative
This program provides affordable housing for income eligible individuals
and families. NCCDC provides Rental Housing, Single Family Homes, Duplex
Homes and Apartment Homes. NCCDC provides assistance in the home buying
process in the following areas: Pre and Post Home ownership counseling,
Financial Literacy Classes, Development of new and rehabilitated affordable
homes for sale.
New
Chicago Entrepreneurial Academy
NCCDC works with entrepreneurs to establish and grow a business. Technical
assistance is provided in the areas of business plan development, financial
management and SBA Loan packaging. The following resources are available
to aspiring entrepreneurs:

The Academy has office space available to accommodate individual, small
and medium size business. The academy lease rates are below market rates
and provide the business with a professional office that allows there
to concentrate on growing their business.
Academic
Enrichment Program
NCCDC is working with the community to provide a computer based learning
for students. Assistance will be provided for after-school tutoring
and preparation for TCAP and other standardized tests.
Students
that use the lab must agree to visit an academic focused website for
a minimum of thirty minutes each time they visit the lab. There is no
charge for use of the computers lab The lab is open on Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Thursday from 11:00 a. m to 3:00.p.m
